The Mitchell Library is located on 3 North Street in Glasgow (G3 7DN for those with sat nav), overlooking the M8 motorway. You can contact the library directly on 0141 287 2910.

Getting Here     

First Bus 9, 11, 16, 18, 42/a, 44/a, 57, 62, 118; see bus routes to Mitchell LIBRARY

Underground

St George’s Cross is the nearest Underground station to The Mitchell Library - about a 10 minute walk.

Train

Charing Cross Station is close by the Library.  Turn left at the Bath Street exit and the Library is directly on other side of bridge over M8 motorway.
Anderston Station is a 5 minute walk away. Take the entrance on to North Street and turn right.

Car

Travelling Westbound on M8, take the Charing Cross exit (Junction 17), cross over Sauchiehall Street and The Library is to the right. Travelling Eastbound on the M8, take the City Centre exit (Junction 19) and follow signs for Charing Cross or Mitchell Library. On-street metered parking is available outside the Library or there is a NCP Car Park on India Street next to Charing Cross Train Station.

Rodge Glass To Talk About Graphic Novels: Write Now 2012

Our very own Rodge Glass has a new short story, 'Do All Things With Love,' in the latest Edinburgh Review. You can access the story http://edinburgh-review.com/. Rodge will be leading a workshop on graphic novels at the  Write Now 2012 conference.  He plans to "discuss the process of writing a graphic novel: the challenges of collaboration between writer and artist," and he'll give you "tips and advice on making your graphic novel a success". The cost of the workshop is £15/£12, and it runs from 13:00-14:00 at the Mitchell Library on 9/3/12 as part of the Aye, Write! Festival. Please see his graphic novel, 'Dougie's War,' the story of a soldier who returns from Afghanistan suffering from PTSD. Rodge's next novel, 'Bring Me The Head of Ryan Giggs,' will be published by Tindall Press on 7/4/12. If we are very lucky, ask nicely, and ply him with cookies, we may even get a bit of a preview.

Seven Submissions as of Write Now

 Write Now (March 9/10, 2012) is officially gaining momentum. We went 'live' on the University of Strathclyde intranet today, and already have had 7 abstracts/proposals submitted (thank you, thank you, lovely writery people), so I am hopeful that we will get many more before our deadline of 15/12/2011. We'd like to hear from anyone with an interest in creative writing, from novices to teachers of creative writing. And we really do mean that-- the diversity of the presentations at our first Write Now conference was what made it so engaging and inclusive. 2 Day Creative Writing Conference

The Mitchell Library, Glasgow

Friday 9^th and Saturday 10^th March 2012 

Postgraduates and scholars with an interest in Creative Writing along with professional writers are invited to submit critical or practice based presentations to the second annual Write Now Conference.  

Three person panels are also welcome.  

Presentations may be structured as follows:

• A critical paper focused on a particular genre / author or style of writing
• A reading balanced by a critical element
• A paper on an aspect of Creative Writing pedagogy 

Creative writing is as diverse and varied as those who practice it, so there are no topics or themes to be adhered to.  We are as eager to hear from new voices as established names in the field.

All we ask is that you are passionate about your writing / research and you can transmit that enthusiasm.  

Write Now is an open forum which aims to allow writers and scholars to share their research and creative output fostering a community of writers and researchers interested in the many facets of creative writing.  

This year the conference will be held as part of Glasgow’s Book Festival - Aye Write!  This will bring writers, academics and readers closer than ever and demonstrates the commitment to foster new talent. We are also inviting readings for a public event during the conference to show off delegates’ performance skills.

Readings may consist of a number of poems or 1-2 short works of fiction / literary journalism and may be on any topic and in any style but must last no longer than 6 minutes  

Presentations 20 minutes

Panels 60 minutes plus 30 minutes for questions

Readings 6 minutes (maximum)
