Seven Submissions as of Write Now

Write Now (March 9/10, 2012) is officially gaining momentum. We went 'live' on the University of Strathclyde intranet today, and already have had 7 abstracts/proposals submitted (thank you, thank you, lovely writery people), so I am hopeful that we will get many more before our deadline of 15/12/2011. We'd like to hear from anyone with an interest in creative writing, from novices to teachers of creative writing. And we really do mean that-- the diversity of the presentations at our first Write Now conference was what made it so engaging and inclusive. Contact Bryony Stocker (bryony.stocker@strath.ac.uk) to submit an abstract or proposal. I am also happy to respond to questions (mary.clark@strath.ac.uk).

How to get to Write Now, but not right NOW

This is the first of several housekeeping sorts of posts; please contact me if you'd like an emailed Word version of any of them.

Travelling To/In/Around Glasgow

AIR:

Glasgow Airport is significantly closer to the city of Glasgow than is Prestwick Airport.

http://www.glasgowairport.com/

The Glasgow Flyer bus service departs from just outside of the Arrivals area at Glasgow Airport, and is scheduled to depart for Glasgow city centre every 10 minutes. Tickets can be booked in advance or purchased as/when needed. For further information, please see:

http://www.glasgowflyer.com/

The Glasgow Shuttle operates similarly, and is run by the First Group in conjunction with Glasgow airport.

CAR:

There are several car parks in central Glasgow, all within 10-15 minutes’ walk of the University of Strathclyde.

http://www.ncp.co.uk/

The NCP car parks are the closest:

38 Oswald Street (G1 4PA) 0845 050 7080

68 Montrose Street (G1 1RE) 0141 553 3150

Alternatively:

High Street Car Park
High Street (G1 1LX) 0141 552 7276

Q Park
37 Albion  Street (G1 1LH) 0141 552 3836
q-park.co.uk

On-street, metered parking is available all around the campus, but demand is variable. Charges vary, and the GCC Enforcers are vigilant.

Creative Writing: What Does It Mean, Anyway?

Come join us at the first Write Now Creative Writing Conference in Glasgow on 3/6/11. Please see below to download the Call For Papers. We are also trying to organise an evening reading event, ideally open to the public, if we have enough brave volunteers.

Confirmed readers include:
Louise Welsh (Keynote Speaker, novelist, and lots of other things besides)
David Kinloch (poet, with new collection coming out in April 2011 from Carcanet Press)
and
Rodge Glass (novelist, biographer, and graphic novelist).

Please contact our Organiser-in-Chief, bryony.stocker@strath.ac.uk, to submit an abstract/with any questions, marymcdonough@me.com, to discuss sponsorship or the possibility of setting up a booth/information point in the breakout area, and/or stewart.melville@strath.ac.uk if science fiction or dystopian fiction is your thing. More than enough room for anyone willing to engage in debate, reading, and talking about writing. We look forward to meeting you.
